Coalescium - Plasmoid/Awakened Ooze Sanctuary
This might be the wrong location for this concept, this is unrelated to the current ooze problem in the sewers of Hanweir.
I propose two types of plasmoids (in flavour only no mechanical differences):
Awakened Ooze: an ooze that originated from a standard ooze species like a grey ooze but has sentience and none of the same abilities. It looks like a grey ooze for example but it has the same features as a plasmoid. These could also be failed magical experiments or wild magic that affected a standard ooze. I think this is similar to how a domesticated animal shows certain traits that differ from their origin like a dog with floppy ears vs a wolf only here it is full sentience/awareness/intelligence vs a minimal sentience focused on consumption and has traits to match like splitting or dangerous acidic protoplasm.
I might add some details about what some of these awakened ooze look like/smell like but it doesn’t change them form mechanically being plasmoids just with monster flavouring.
Astral plasmoid (like Schmoop): these originated from out there but they only arrived in Eusia similar to how Schmoop did with wizards experimenting with gates, portals, sigils, and other magical experiments where the young plasmoid was used as the experiment test subject. There are not many of these.
They mostly keep to themselves only venturing out to find food or useful items. Some prefer to learn the ways of the humanoids and others are guarded and keep to the ooze ways. They might have a few humanoid sympathizers over the years. Some have chosen to venture off on their own path, but they always consider the colony home. Those that venture out may return and pass on what they have learned to the others in the colony whether they went to study magic, religion, or sword fighting etc. (I am trying to ensure that there is knowledge of some classes to have that option to play). Some may show inherent abilities (like a sorcerer).
Coalescium Design/Architecture:
Underground village lit by bioluminescent/magical fungi cultivated by some of the oozes.
No stairs, flowing architecture any buildings or structures seem to merge into each other. There are pipes (imagine warp pipes) that connect floors to each other, ladders if a building is humanoid friendly.
Water comes from underground streams/springs. For food they usually scavenge the villages leftovers or forage for edible foods.
They enjoy collecting humanoid artifacts - probably from the awakened gelatinous cube oozes, the proprietor of the oddities museum is one of those.
The colony: beings amorphous beings they prefer to have smaller entrances to where they stay. I imagine like an ant colony they have a vast underground network, the cargo/humanoid entrances are well concealed but there is that option if someone friendly comes to visit. Now the rains of greycliff would be a problem, so they have a complex network of drains to filter out the rainwater from their underground home instead redirecting it to a swamp like an underground stream. It is light by a network of bioluminescent mushrooms.
Policy:
- They are generally welcoming to the Thorists as several of the early founders of the Coalescium were taken in and welcomed by the Open Halls/Stormward Sanctuaries when they found themselves displaced or removed from villages/towns.
- They welcome friendly awakened ooze visitors as friends, this policy ensures none of their limited population are left behind.
