Tenets
A cleric of Ilmater must work to reduce suffering rather than revelry.merely condemn it. They are expected to protect the helpless, comfort those in pain, speak for those who cannot defend themselves, and accept hardship when doing so spares another.
They must not inflict pain for pleasure, profit, pride, or entertainment. They must not abandon someone in desperate need when aid is reasonably within their power, nor may they use another person’s suffering to gain authority, wealth, or devotion. Torture, cruelty toward prisoners, the abuse of the vulnerable, and the deliberate creation of suffering are forbidden.
Ilmater does not require his servants to submit to every abuser or accept preventable harm. A cleric who allows cruelty to continue when they could stop it has failed in their duty. Mercy does not mean permitting the strong to prey upon the weak.
A cleric who repeatedly ignores these tenets may lose Ilmater’s favour. This loss may begin as an absence of comfort in prayer or a growing inability to endure hardship. More serious violations can sever a cleric’s connection to divine power until they seek to repair the harm they caused.
